Sew Kids Workshops

Summer of 2020 would have been the 10th summer for my Summer Sew Kids workshops but the pandemic forced me to cancel for not just summer 2020, but also for 2021 and 2022. Unless they discover yet another strain, I believe we’ll finally be able to start back up again during the summer of 2023. Fingers crossed.

All workshops are held in my home in southwest Gainesville, Florida.

I have a variety of age appropriate items for the kids/teens to make in small workshops. Patterns for some of the simple start-up projects, shown below, are either my own creations, (free for workshop participants), or are available free online. Participants will need to purchase fabric and thread online or from any local source such as Joann’s or Hobby Lobby. All pins, needles, scissors, machine, etc are supplied by me. Once the kids have accomplished a couple of these simple items, they’re encouraged to purchase their own sewing patterns from either local sources or online.

Mom’s, older siblings or care givers are always welcome to sit in on any of the workshops.

Skirt

This fashionable elastic waist skirt is a great project for young sewers.  And something they can show off to friends and family. This project introduces gathering, working with elastic and hand sewing the hem. The amount of fabric required will vary based on the child’s measurements.  I can take those measurements, but children are usually…

Pair of baskets

Pair of baskets

Whether used to hold jewelry, scrunchies, makeup or keys, what teen wouldn’t like a set of these decorative fabric baskets? This project introduces finessing smaller objects under the needle. Finished baskets are approximately 7″ x 4″ x 2″. The baskets are machine washable but air drying is recommended.

Quillow

Our quillow is part quilt and part pillow or, to be more specific, it is a small simple throw size quilt that folds into a pocket to form a pillow approximately 16″ square.
